Along the Ionian coast, the contradas Troncarea and Mesola delle Volpi are the ideal terroir for great red wines thanks to the exposure to the sun and high temperatures that allow for a great concentration of the grapes. Also, the sea breeze blowing from the Gulf of Taranto cools down the vines at night and protects the grapes against dampness and molds. The soil is partially sandy, and the roots creep down into the limestone subsoil storing water and refreshment.
This unique balance of factors is one of the main reasons for the quality of these Primitivo grapes, which reach significant concentrations of sugar/alcohol and at the same time maintain a sweet and fragrant fruit.
From these vines we produce fruity and well structured wines with good ageing potential.
